San Diego's Neurok Optics has announced the launch of the first wide-screen three-dimensional (3D) monitor.

The 22-inch 220 widescreen 3D monitor uses stereoscopic 3D technology combined with polarised eyeglasses to enable online gamblers to see the game in three-dimensional clarity and colour and retails for around $1,000.

The American company said that the monitor could also be used as a traditional two-dimensional monitor at the touch of a button to deliver commercial-grade levels of brightness and image quality.

All popular games and many new movies are now created in 3D but most viewers are unable to see the game or movie as it is meant to be seen in 3D. Each monitor comes with a choice of lightweight polarised glasses that Neurok Optics said would not contribute to some of the traditional drawbacks to 3D glasses such as eyestrain, spatial disorientation and headaches.

The monitor also comes with the first S-3D drivers to be compatible with both the Nvidia Geforce 8 Series and the ATI's FireGL V3600 workstation graphics accelerators.
